In the last few weeks the atmosphere in the house seemed to have calmed down Haas, after frequent tensions emerged around mid-season between the two rookie drivers of the American team, Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher. In reality, however, the GP of Mexico City brought to light rather clear frictions between the parties. Above all, the Russian driver is unhappy, who after Saturday’s qualifying complained of a different treatment by the team compared to his German teammate. The Russian’s complaints refer to an alleged ‘compliance’ of the team with respect to Schumacher’s improprieties, which would instead be made to weigh on the native of Moscow.
During Q1 Mazepin asked the team for reverse positions with Schumacher, who he said was going too slowly. The answer, however, was negative. With the journalists, # 9 let off steam, citing the example of what happened in Zandvoort. “In that case it was he who overtook me – Mazepin recalled – but on that occasion I was told that this can only be done if the riders keep the tires up to temperature in a different way “.
The criticism of the Russian was related to the fact that this time he was not allowed to do the same. “The rules appear to be slightly different for the two sides of the garage – accused Mazepin – I have already found myself in difficult situations. In fact, this has happened before. I will undoubtedly get over it. But right now it’s not an easy situation for me “ he concluded.
