Again in front of everyone
Very successful Saturday for Maserati in Tokyo, where Formula E arrived for the first time this year. A 'baptism' that will be remembered mainly for success of Maximilian Güntherfifth in his career for the German and the second at the wheel of the 'Trident' after his success in Jakarta in 2023, when the 26-year-old brought Maserati back to triumph in a car competition 66 years after Juan Manuel Fangio's victory in F1 in the GP of Germany 1957.
From the near pole to the impeccable strategy
Also very close to winning the pole position, which he missed by just 21 thousandths of a second in the final against Oliver Rowland, Günther always maintained the podium spot for the entire duration of the race, managing the strategy in the best possible way and making the decisive attack on the Nissan driver with ten laps to go. Since then, the #7 has never lost the lead even after the activation of the second and final attack mode, resisting Rowland's attacks on the final lap.
Pride in success
Always in the points since the start of the world championship, with a 4th place in the first round in Mexico as his best result before Tokyo, Günther now has every right to be able to rejoice in this achievement: “An incredible weekend – he commented after the victory – we were in the top three in every session and came close to pole position, but securing victory is a really special feeling: Everyone did an amazing job. I felt great in the car and we have made some steps forward as a team in the last few weeks. From Sao Paulo onwards, I think we have shown that we have a very strong pace and today we converted it into a victory. There was a lot of energy management in the race, but we covered ourselves well, executed the strategy and moves perfectly and did everything we needed to do. It's fantastic to win the first Formula E race in Tokyo and I'm proud. We must enjoy this moment.”
Daruvala still at zero
While Günther rejoices, at Maserati the difficulties of the first season in the 100% electric championship continue for Jehan Daruvala. After five E-Prixes, the Indian driver has still not managed to score a point, thus remaining at the bottom of the world rankings together with other drivers such as Mortara, Di Grassi, De Vries and Ticktum: “First of all, I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Max! It's an important win for the team and he did a great job – he has declared – as far as I'm concerned, my start was good and in the first laps I made good progress, but unfortunately I suffered some damage to my front wing after being hit from the side. I still have a lot to learn in racing conditions to be able to maximize my performance, but I will continue to work hard in the coming weeks and push for points at Misano.”
