Endowed with $175,000, it is one of the most important awards in Spanish literature.
The Argentine writer Guillermo Saccomanno has won the Alfaguara prize in its 28th edition for his novel ‘Arderá el viento’. The Alfaguara is one of the most important literary awards awarded to an unpublished work written in Spanish.
On this occasion, the award included Juan Gabriel Vásquez as president of the jury, which was made up of Leila Guerriero, Manuel Jabois, Paula Ortiz, Andrea Stefanoni and Pilar Reyes, editorial director of Alfaguara (with voice but no vote).
In 2024, within the framework of the sixtieth anniversary of the Alfaguara publishing house, the winner of the Alfaguara novel prize was Sergio del Molino with ‘The Germans’.
In this call, 725 manuscripts have been received, of which 322 have been sent from Spain, 93 from Argentina, 110 from Mexico, 89 from Colombia, 38 from the United States, 27 from Chile, 25 from Peru and 21 from Uruguay. The prize is endowed with $175,000, a sculpture by Martín Chirino and simultaneous publication throughout the Spanish-speaking territory.
The award-winning novel will hit bookstores on March 20.
