The break begins
The checkered flag waved at Marina Bay officially marked the start of a long break that Formula 1 will experience until the weekend of October 18-20, the weekend in which the Circus will return to the track in Austin for the Grand Prix of the Americas. The event in Texas will be the first of six finals during which we will witness the fight for the Drivers’ and Constructors’ world titles, but not only.
Still zero points
In this stop the Sauber will further work to achieve a specific goal: the first points in the championship. The Swiss team is in fact the only one not to have yet scored a world championship point after 18 races, both with Valtteri Bottas and with Zhou Guanyu. In this way, inevitably, the team occupies the tenth and last position in the world championship.
Almost all negative
A top-10 in the race that is proving to be a real nightmare for the future Audi, as well as for the former Mercedes Bottas, 16th at the finish line: “As expected, it was a tough race. – the Finn said without mincing words – at the beginning I had front brake overheating problems that caused the front to lock up and ultimately cost me time. We worked as a team to stay with the cars in the front early on, but we couldn’t. The positive side is that we got a clean start, which then allowed us to stay ahead of some competitors, but the The race pace was still not what we needed and we did not receive any help from the safety cars.. Now it’s important to use these three weeks to find some performance and, if all goes well, bring a strong upgrade to Austin to reset and finish the season in the best possible way.”
Team man
Hopes also shared by Zhou Guanyuwhich with the 15th place he once again finished ahead of his more experienced teammate, just as he did in Baku: “I think today was a more positive race than the last few outings, because we showed that we can fight better with our opponents with more fuel. – added the Chinese pilot – Obviously, we need to work on our one-lap pace to start from a higher position, but overall it was a good race with no mistakes. Today we executed our plan well as a team and not only was my race clean, but I also did my part in the team strategy by helping Valtteri. I did exactly what Sainz did last year, consistently keeping Valtteri in my DRS zone to help him stay ahead of Gasly, which was very important and helped us bring the cars home in 15th and 16th. The team gave me clear instructions and I followed them as efficiently as possible, doing everything I could to support the team. Hopefully we can continue to progress and take another step forward after the break.”
