Continue on Ferrari-Red Bull duel in Jeddah, even if the indications of the track are few to draw a first overall picture. In the second free practice session of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc he confirmed himself in front of everyone by printing the best performance in 1: 30.074. As in PL1, the Monegasque was behind Max Verstappen’s Red Bull, which was 140 thousandths behind but with a disadvantage compound. The Dutch world champion, in fact, did not complete his qualifying simulation first due to an error in turn 1 and then for the VSC caused by Kevin Magnussen’s stop on the track (still technical problems for his Haas).
However, the problems did not involve only Max: for his part, Leclerc had to give up the race pace simulation for the breakage of the front left arm after contact with a wall in a second attack at the time. No damage that would cause excessive concern, but it is clear that here, more than in Sakhir, it was very important to evaluate the behavior of the car over the long haul.
In third place there is always Carlos Sainz, who was unable to improve the time set at the beginning of the session with the averages with the Soft. The Spanish Ferrari driver preceded Sergio’s second Red Bull Perezalso with yellow rubber, imitating the teammate in the kiss to a wall with the right front.
Mercedes confirms third force, with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell in fifth and sixth position. The Silver Arrows, however, do not seem at the moment up to worry the two rivals in the fight for victory. Instead, McLaren goes backthanks to the seventh place of Lando Norris ahead of Esteban’s Alpine Or withwhile Valtteri Bottas and Yuki Tsunoda complete the Top-10. The Japanese, however, had to stop his AlphaTauri a few seconds from the checkered flag due to a problem with the power unit, which once again keeps the Honda engines on their toes after the breakdown (with fire) encountered by Gasly in Bahrain.
