Take the statements of Verstappen and the two Ferrari drivers before the Monaco GP. Connect the dots and come to the conclusion: the principality could be dyed red. Enough to put stress on the fans’ coronaries.
Listen here and judge for yourself: “We face a different track to Imola, it’s not the best track for us as we struggle on dips and curbs. So far, on almost all tracks, we have improved in low-speed corners but Monaco is complicated and many things can mess up plans,” announced Verstappen. This would be enough to make Ferrari fans dream. But Max goes further: “In recent years – he explains – Ferrari has always been very strong here and McLaren has made enormous steps forward. There may be some surprises here.”
Of course, it is obvious that after Miami and Imola, Red Bull’s opponents have become very close, but the words of the world champion sound like a real prediction.
And we come to Leclerc’s thoughts: “Here the driver – he says – can make the difference”. And that’s okay, even children know this. But then Charles goes unbalanced: “Getting on the podium here wouldn’t be worth that much, because the second and third steps aren’t that exciting. The goal is victory.” Amen.
The same goes for Carlos Sainz: “With some changes and a more favorable track for our car, we can win. We need a good Q3 and a good race in terms of strategy. With Red Bull and McLaren we start on equal terms. And everything will depend on what our car adapts best to the track.”
And what if, as usual, Verstappen takes flight and goes on to win yet another GP undisturbed (it’s not a figure of speech, it would be the sixth of the season…)? It doesn’t matter, Ferrari fans are used to it. At least, before the race they hoped. Dreaming – as we know – costs nothing.
