Thailand’s shadow on Imola
On the weekend that brought Formula 1 back to Imola after the 2023 floods in Emilia-Romagna which forced the cancellation of the event, the future of the circuit as the venue for a GP valid for the world championship was one of the most debated topics in the last weekend. While the Circus has officially confirmed the Autodromo ‘Enzo and Dino Ferrari’ for 2025, with the Minister of Transport Matteo Salvini who has at the same time guaranteed all possible commitment for the maintenance of Imola also from 2026 (for a championship still with two races in Italy), the Prime Minister of Thailand Srettha Thavisin.
The meeting with Domenicali for Bangkok
As part of an official visit to Italy, the Asian Prime Minister went to Imola to meet in person with the President and CEO of F1 Stefano Domenicaliin order to discuss with the latter the possibility of organizing a Grand Prix on city circuit of the capital Bangkok from 2027 or 2028. A project already promoted by the Thai government, but which could be supported by Red Bull.
It is no coincidence that in the post published on his social profiles, Thavisin added the following message appearing in a photo next to Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner: “In line with the Thai government’s intention to bring F1 racing to Thailand in the near future, I visited the ‘Enzo e Dino Ferrari’ Autodrome and I discussed it with the executives of the Formula One Group – he wrote – This is in line with our policy of placing Thailand on the global radar for international events and activities.”
