Minister of Ports and Airports states that recovery of the port facility is a direct request from President Lula
The Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filhosaid this Tuesday (9.Jan.2024) that the government intends to announce the tender notice for the 35th anniversary of the Port of Itajaí (SC) in the 1st half of 2024.
Costa Filho stated that the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) will participate in the signing of the temporary concession contract for the port to Mada Araújo Asset Management, which won the tender to operate the facility for 2 years.
The company must provisionally command the container terminal until the definitive auction is held, with an estimated date of January 2025. The president's visit in March aims to draw the attention of investors to the port –which is currently stopped and spent the entirety of 2023 without an operator.
“He [Porto de Itajaí], unfortunately, it became unfeasible under the last government, and President Lula gave us the guidance that we should get this port off the ground as soon as possible. May he, in fact, operate again”said Costa Filho.
