In a statement, Itamaraty states that the PF is “taking all measures” to locate journalist and indigenist
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed this Tuesday (May 7, 2022) that he became aware of the disappearance of the journalist from The Guardian Bishop Phillips and Funai (National Indian Foundation) employee Bruno Araújo Pereira.
In a note, Itamaraty stated that it mobilized the PF (Federal Police) to follow up on the case and is taking steps to locate them.
“The Brazilian government will continue to monitor the search with the zeal that the case demands and make the necessary efforts to promptly find the British press professional and the employee of the National Indian Foundation”says the note. “In the event that the disappearance was caused by criminal activity, all measures will be taken to bring the perpetrators to justice.”
The agency also said that colleagues and family members of the missing will be updated on the progress of the search.
Phillips and Pereira have been missing since Sunday (June 5th) in the state of Amazonas. They were last seen in the Javari Valley, a region close to the border with Peru.
This Tuesday (June 7), the Navy informed that it is carrying out searches with a helicopter of the 1st General Employment Squadron of the Northwest, two vessels and a jet ski in the region.
According to Univaja (Union of Indigenous Peoples of the Javari Valley), they were the target of threats before disappearing. However, there are no details on who would be the authors of the threats.
