Nothing is defined, but, beyond the totonomi, one thing seems certain: there will be technicians in the center-right government and, as Ignazio La Russa assures, “they will not be overwhelmingly”, but present enough. With all due respect to Matteo Salvini who even today at the ‘Federale’ has returned to ask for an “all-political government”, claiming the Interior Ministry for himself. Giancarlo Giorgetti makes clear the League’s priority: “Salvini is the natural candidate for the Interior Ministry”. According to the latest rumors, the technicians could occupy what have always been considered the strategic boxes of the ministerial risk and must have the final go-ahead for the Colle.
First of all theEconomy and the Interior Ministry: while Domenico Siniscalco remains on pole for via XX Settembre, it now seems established that a prefect goes there for the Interior (Matteo Piantedosi and Giuseppe Pecoraro are in the running). As for the Foreign and Defense, tell that Giorgia Meloni wants to keep them ‘for herself’ and entrust them to high-profile figures, of a technical nature, that she likes. For the Farnesina there would always be Elisabetta Belloni at stake, even if this ‘shift’ could involve a series of changes within the secret services of no small importance.
At this point, for Antonio Tajani, national coordinator of Forza Italia (competing for the Farnesina), another first-tier dicastery should emerge, as requested by Silvio Berlusconi: He put, on all, or the Infrastructures, given that the blue number two was EU Commissioner for Transport. But there are those who say that for Tajani the road to the highest seat of Montecitorio has reopened, given that the last boatos assign the presidencies of the Chamber and Senate to the center-right.
Even if a non-political choice prevails in defense, the problem of the ‘accommodation’ of Copasir president Adolfo Urso, considered among the favorites, would arise. In the game of compensations, the hypothesis of the double vice-premier would be at stake. Everything is also linked to the elections of the leaders of the Parliament. In the role of Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council, the strong name is only one: that of Senator Giovanbattista Fazzolari, who is very loyal to Giorgia, who could assume the delegation for the Secret Services, considered, in reality, the classic wild card that can be spent for any top position.
Among the Melonian candidates he would remain for the Infrastructure, Environment or Culture, Fabio Rampelli, while the MEP and co-president of the ECR, Raffaele Fitto, ‘back’ in Parliament on 25 September, could leave Brussels to spend his competences in European affairs. At present, Guido Crosetto is always given out. For Justice Fdi Meloni always thinks of the former prosecutor Carlo Nordio (the other contender for the same post, the League’s Giulia Bongiorno, is given to the civil service) while for the South the name of the outgoing Sicilian governor, Nello Musumeci and of the former senior commissioner of the Chamber, Edmondo Cirielli, and for the Department of Reforms that of the former president of the Senate, Marcello Pera. Daniela Santanchè, another member of Fdi, runs for the Ministry of Tourism (which would also appeal to the Lega). However, who will lead the new Ministry of the Sea remains top secret.
Berlusconi does not give up on his ‘desired’: Tajani, Licia Ronzulli, Anna Maria Bernini, Alessandro Cattaneo and Andrea Mandelli are the blues that the Cavaliere would like at Palazzo Chigi. The Ronzulli knot, born out of the doubts expressed by Fdi on its promotion to key ministries such as Health, could dissolve, diverting the loyal of Arcore to a medium-high-end department, such as the Family. It is not clear who among the Azzurri government will be the head of the delegation, even here there would be a game in progress. Just as there is another game to play, that of the new group leaders of Fi: if the name of Gianfranco Miccichè circulates in the Senate, it is not excluded that a race may open in Montecitorio to contend for reconfirmation with Paolo Barelli.
From the Lega, which today met the Federal Council in Rome to reiterate that the nascent government must be “political” because “the season of technicians is over”, the Interior Ministry’s request for Salvini is once again raised. Having received the new green light from his (“he has already done well to the Interiors, he has to go back”, is the refrain), the number one in via Bellerio leaves the offices of the Chamber with the notes collected in the meeting.
In the sheet the ministries of Agriculture, Infrastructure, Regional Affairs, and precisely the Interior, the only box coupled to the name – his -. The names of Gian Marco Centinaio for Agriculture, Edoardo Rixi for MIT, Erika Stefani for Regional Affairs remain in the field. But the list also includes Justice and Health. “Now there is a list of ministries of interest to the League, but we have not talked about names”, says Giancarlo Giorgetti: “The Interior Ministry only for Salvini? It seems to me the natural candidate …”. And on the path of the Ministry of the Interior to the leader of the League, not even Forza Italia gets in the way: “No veto on Matteo Salvini”, assures Tajani.
As a tradition, the ministers’ puzzle, therefore, will be resolved only when the leaders of Parliament are elected. For the leadership of Palazzo Madama in the last few hours the name of Ignazio La Russa, one of the founders of Fdi and outgoing vice president, has returned to circulate with insistence. Moreover, they point out, there are already ‘precedents’ that play in favor of La Russa: with Berlusconi as premier the second position of the state remained in the center-right twice: with Marcello Pera in 2001 and Renato Schifani in 2008.
