Google, founded in 1998, is a $2 trillion-plus behemoth with AI in its DNA. He threw Google Brain in 2011 and acquired DeepMind in 2014, two pillars of its AI strategy. OpenAIon the other hand, was only born in 2015 but has already achieved an important position thanks to the support of Microsoft and an estimated value of approximately $80 billion.
The resources available
Google can rely on the vast resources of Google CloudWhile OpenAI it relies on Microsoft servers, which has invested 13 billion dollars in the company of San Francisco. Both companies also have access to huge amounts of data, which is essential for training their AI.
Google And OpenAI boast some of the brightest minds in the field of AI. On one side, Demis Hassabis of Google DeepMind has revolutionized machine learning with age-old games like Go. On the other hand, Ilya Sutskeverco-founder of OpenAIpursued the objective ofAGIgeneral artificial intelligence, which aims to surpass human cognitive abilities.
Despite the progress, both companies face significant challenges. Google it recently faced criticism for its AI errors, such as the advice to use non-toxic glue to stick cheese to pizza, a suggestion that was not only wrong but also dangerous. These types of errors can undermine the reputation of Google’s search engine and drive away advertisers, a crucial source of revenue for the company.
OpenAI, for its part, is working on a new search engine that will use generative AI to provide tidy summaries of information. This could revolutionize the way we access information online, but it also raises concerns about the accuracy of the responses generated.
Google and the future of the web
These innovations risk radically changing the web as we know it. If users find satisfactory answers directly in the search results, they may no longer click on the links to find out more, reducing traffic to external sites. However, it is also possible that AI stimulates users’ curiosity, pushing them to seek out more information from traditional sources.
And what do you think? Will artificial intelligence change the way we use the internet or do you think there are still many obstacles to overcome? Share your opinion in the comments!
