Google announced on Tuesday a definitive agreement to acquire the Wiz cloud security platform for 32,000 million dollars (29,354 million euros) in full in cash, subject to adjustments to the closure, in which it represents the largest purchase ever made by the searches giant.
Only nine months ago, Alphabet, Google’s parent company, and the Wiz cybersecurity company had settled negotiations for a possible acquisition. Then, the technological giant came to put an offer of 23,000 million dollars for the Israeli company, which would have been the largest disbursement in the history of the search group.
As reported then Financial Timesthe negotiations came down after some members of the Administration Councils of Alphabet and Wiz were skeptical of the possibility that the agreement was approved by the regulatory bodies. Once the agreement was made public, the factions of each council pressed against the agreement, which ultimately gave the disruption with him.
Now, however, the purchase goes forward. Once the acquisition is completed, subject to the usual closure conditions, including regulatory approvals, Wiz will join Google Cloud, as indicated by the Mountain View company. To date, the largest purchase made by Google had been Motorola Mobility for 12.5 billion dollars (11,466 million euros) in 2012, ahead of the acquisition in 2022 of the Mandiant cybersecurity company in exchange for 5.4 billion dollars (4,953 million euros).
Google stressed that Wiz’s purchase represents a Google Cloud investment to promote greater cloud security and the ability to use multiple clouds (multicloud), two important and growing trends in the AI era.
“Both cybersecurity and cloud computing are fast -growing industries with a wide range of solutions,” said the company, for which the growing role of AI and the adoption of cloud services have drastically transformed the security overview for customers, causing cybersecurity to be increasingly important for defense against emerging risks and the protection of national security.
In this sense, Google has stressed that Wiz products will continue to function and will be available in all the main clouds, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud platforms, and customers will be offered through a variety of security solutions for partners.
“Both Wiz and Google Cloud are based on the conviction that cloud security must be easier, accessible, intelligent and democratized, so that more organizations can adopt and use the cloud and the AI safely,” said the co -founder and CEO of Wiz, Assaf Rappaport. “We both believe that Wiz must continue to be a multicloud platform, so that, in any cloud, we are still a leading platform,” he added.
In this sense, Rappaport has expressed his confidence that this change allows Wiz to execute and innovate even faster. “Being part of Google Cloud is, in effect, an impulse: it will accelerate our innovation rhythm faster than we could achieve as an independent company,” he added.
