Enterprise closed its activities in 2021; hosted for 42 years several artists, politicians and businessmen
The assets of the Maksoud Plaza hotel, in São Paulo (SP), will be auctioned on Monday (22.Aug.2022). The development located in Bela Vista, downtown, closed its doors in December 2021, after 42 years in operation.
Items will be traded on FCR Auctions website. Chairs, mini-fridges, televisions, closets, tables and computers are on the list.
In September 2021, the hotel filed for bankruptcy to pay off its debts. The amount was more than R$ 81 million, without considering labor debts.
At the time, Grupo Hidroservice –responsible for the hotel at the time– reported having cut 50% of its employees. With the definitive closure, about 170 employees were left without a job.
The justification given for the end of activities was the covid-19 crisis and the group’s restructuring plan.
The hotel was the 1st considered 5 star in the capital of São Paulo. It hosted several celebrities, such as French actress Catherine Deneuve, British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, American singer Ray Charles and the English band Rolling Stones.
Maksoud’s noble hall was also the scene of several shows, such as the one by Frank Sinatra in 1981.
