The automotive world mourns the passing of Paolo Pininfarina. The president of the Turin company of the same name passed away in these hours, he was 65 years old. Born in Turin on 28 August 1958, Pininfarina graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the Polytechnic of Turin. His career in the automotive field began with a series of training and professional experiences abroad including in Cadillac, Honda and General Motors.
The turning point in the 80s
But the turning point came in 1982, when he began his professional career at Pininfarina. After just five years, he assumed the position of president and CEO of Pininfarina Extra, the group company specialized in industrial design, furniture, architecture, nautical and aeronautics. But his adventure in Pininfarina does not end here: since 1988 he has been a member of the board of directors and since 2002 a member of the management committee of the parent company Pininfarina. In 2006 he was appointed Vice President of Pininfarina and since 2008, after the sudden death of his brother Andrea, assumes the position of President.
Two masterpieces above all
Even the Turin company itself wanted to express a message of condolence, recalling two of its masterpieces in particular: the concept car Sergioa two-seater boat on a Ferrari mechanical base that Paolo decided to build in 2013 in memory of his father, the Senator for life Sergio Pininfarina, and the Automobili Pininfarina Battistaan electric hypercar that bears the name of his grandfather and which he himself unveils at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

Pininfarina for his extraordinary contribution to the Company and for always working with passion, in first person, to protect our history and our corporate identity both in terms of style and ethical and behavioral choices. In recent years we have shared many triumphs and also many challenges, always advising and supporting each other. The best way to honor his memory is to continue, as he would like, to do our utmost for the future of Pininfarina.”
