He Aging is a natural process in the life of human beings although it depends on each person how it may affect them. One can take care of oneself to delay its consequences. According to Dr. Manuel J. Castillo, professor of Physiology at the Faculty of Medicine of Granada, up to the age of 50-60, the passage of time affects “for the better” but from that age range onwards it is “when the passage of time begins to affect us for the worse.”
Around these ages, small damages appear that are seen in appearance as skin spots, wrinkles or changes in appearance. Inside, injuries or functional losses occur in tissues and organs.
Now, a team of scientists has discovered how the human body creates skin from a stem cell and even has reproduced small amounts of skin in a laboratory. The study arose to understand how each cell in the organism is created.
This discovery It could help fight against aging and to produce artificial skin for transplants and prevent scars. The project is called Human Cell Atlas and is international in scope but focuses on the Wellcome Sanger Institute in Cambridge, England. The project has analyzed 100 million cells of different parts of the body in the eight years it has been in operation.
Professor Muzlifah Haniffa, leaders of the project, assures that these discoveries will help scientists treat diseases more effectively, discover new ways of stay healthier for longer and look younger. “If we can manipulate the skin and prevent aging, we will have fewer wrinkles”says Haniffa.
“If we can understand how cells change from their initial development to aging in adulthood, then we can ask ourselves: ‘How can I rejuvenate the organs, make the heart younger? How can I make skin younger?‘”, says the expert.
Researchers have found the instructions for creating human skin and they have published it in the journal Nature. They used chemicals to turn genes on and off at the right times and in the right places to artificially grow skin from stem cells.
They have already grown small patches of skin, and have even grown hair. “If we know how to create human skinwe can use it for patients with burns and it can be a way to transplant tissue,” said Haniffa. “Another example is that if we can create hair follicles, we can create hair in bald people.”
