Igor was 61 years old: the causes of death are unknown. Sedykh and Tamm died in September, Litvinov died in 2018
He is yet another great ex-Soviet hammer thrower who, still relatively young, dies in less than three months. Igor Nikulin, bronze at the 1992 Barcelona Games, three times on the European podium, seventh in the world all-time list, son of Yuriy, fourth in Tokyo 1964 and 61 years old in August, passed away today in St. Petersburg. The Tass, which first gave the news, did not specify the causes of death.

Before him, on September 14, at the age of 66, the most legendary, Yuriy Sedykh, also twice Olympian (in Montreal 1976 and Moscow 1980) and still world record holder (since July 1984): for a heart attack. Then, on September 22, at the age of 64, Jury Tamm, bitter rival of Sedykh himself, bronze in Moscow 1980 and Seoul 1988. Without of course forgetting Sergej Litvinov, gold in Seoul 1988 and silver in Moscow 1980, who died at 60 on January 23. 2018, officially for the consequences suffered by a fall from the bicycle.
The suspects
–
All specialists from the 1980s, all of whom disappeared between 60 and 66 years of age. Without anyone knowing he was sick. It is certainly not the case to speculate. But certain sad suspicions, even in mournful circumstances, cannot fail to make their way.
