Golden Axe: Comedy Central has announced the arrival of the animated series

Comedy Central has announced the arrival of a animated series taken from Golden Axe by SEGA. It will consist of ten episodes and will boast a star-studded cast: Matthew Rhys, Danny Pudi, Lisa Gilroy, Liam McIntyre and Carl Tart.

For those who don't remember, the first Golden Ax was a scrolling fighting game initially launched in arcades, then landed on a multitude of different home systems.

Produced by CBS Studios in collaboration with Sony Pictures Television and Original Film, as already mentioned the animated series will consist of ten episodes. The first will be written by Mike McMahan (“Star Trek: Lower Decks,” “Solar Opposites”) and Joe Chandler (“American Dad!”), who will also serve as executive producers. Chandler will also serve as showrunner.

Other executive producers will be Haruki Satomi (President/CEO of Sega Sammy), Shuji Utsumi (President/COO of Sega Corporation) and Toru Nakahara (“Sonic the Hedgehog,” “Knuckles,” “Streets of Rage”), all in-house SAW.

The first information

We want magic

The series synopsis tells us that it will be “a fun and loving homage to SEGA's 1989 video game series and will follow” veteran warriors Ax Battler, Tyris Flare and Gilius Thunderhead as they fight once again to save Yuria from the evil Death Adder, who simply doesn't want to stay dead. Luckily, this time they have the inexperienced and unprepared Hampton Squib at their side.”

Rhys will play the grumpy dwarf Gilius Thunderhead, who according to how he is described has very little care for his personal hygiene (a perfect competitor for a Yu-Gi-Ho tournament, therefore), Pudi will be Hampton Squib, an adventurer with very little experience who he dreamed his whole life of having a great adventure; Gilroy will be Tyris Flare, an indomitable warrior sorceress, lethal in combat and with her sharp tongue; McIntyre will play Ax Battler, a barbarian warrior with a strong sense of honor and the sweet temperament of a golden retriever; Finally, Carl Tart will play Chronos “Evil” Lait, an anthropomorphic panther who comes directly from Golden Ax III.
