The franchise God of War it may soon become one TV seriesat least that’s the intention of Amazon Prime Video which, according to what has been learned from the Deadline magazine, is negotiating with Sony to make the project a reality.
Journalist Nellie Andreeva has learned that behind the adaptation work should be Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, from the sci-fi series The Expanse, and Rafe Judkins, the executive producer and showrunner of The Wheel of Time series. In addition, Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions will be involved, which collaborate on a permanent basis on the series based on PlayStation franchise.
That God of War would be just yet another TV series taken from Sony’s videogame series. Television reductions of The Last of Us are currently in the works, with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, and Twisted Metal, with Anthony Mackie. However, the entire video game industry is caught up in the TV show frenzy. Among the new productions to come, a series on Resident Evil and one on Halo.
Amazon is particularly active in this regard, with series from the Fallout and Mass Effect franchises in production.
In short, we certainly would not be surprised by a series on God of War. It remains to be seen if the producers want to exploit the new trend, the Nordic one, with a wiser and more staid Kratos, or if they want to return to the original one, much more over the top. It could also be a completely new story, perhaps based on the next chapter to God of War: Ragnarok, the latter coming out in 2022 on PS4 and PS5.
