Modena, Giulio Santagata died at the age of 74. Among the historic founders of the Ulivo with Romano Prodi
AND' Giulio Santagata, one of the founders of the Ulivo with former prime minister Romano Prodi, died in Modena. The former minister, 74 years old, was tried by the after-effects of two surgical operations undergone in the autumn due to heart problems that led him into a coma in the last few days. He leaves behind his wife Lalla and two children.
Santagata organized and won two electoral races for the Ulivo. As the creative mind of the countryside, he had organized the bus tour around Italy in 1996 and the one on a yellow truck in 2006. For this reason he was considered one of the main supporters of Prodi's victories. Among other roles, he was parliamentarian in Brusselsbut also economic advisor to the former prime minister secretary of the Nomisma scientific committee. His latest book was published at the end of 2022 and was titled The Wrath of the Reformist.
In addition to having been a close collaborator of Romano Prodi, the two were linked by sincere friendship, as demonstrated by the words of condolence expressed by the former prime minister. “The passing of Giulio Santagata is a great pain. I mourn the loss of a dear friend to whom I was linked by feelings of deep affection.” wrote the former prime minister and former president of the EU Commission.
“For years Giulio and I shared not only a large part of our private lives, but also political battles, successes and defeats. It is impossible for me to summarize today the many memories of a story that saw us side by side. I will miss his lively intelligence, the frankness of his advice and his ability to find the ironic twist in the things of life and politics. My thoughts and my biggest hug go to Lalla, to her children Eugenio and Pippi, to her family” Prodi wrote again.
