That “shining harmony” is no longer among us. There were many moving comments and great participation in the condolences for Giulia.
“This is dedicated to you, to your shining harmony, you are immensely Giulia”, many will remember the incipit of one of the most famous refrains of the last decades of Italian music. We are talking about Dedicated to you de The Vibrations, a band that achieved great success in the early 2000s. Today we dedicate, again, a space (not as beautiful as the artistic one of the song) to Giulia, because that muse has gone away forever.
Francesco Sarcina, the frontman of Le Vibrazioni, recently announced the passing of “that” particular Giulia via a post on Instagram. This woman, in 2003, had inspired one of the songs most loved by the group’s fans, the first great success. “Dedicato a te”, in fact, is the first single from their debut album. In his post, Sarcina writes a long emotional message:
On more than one occasion I have been asked what I meant by ‘luminous harmony’. I remember my first thought was: how the fuck can you not understand what it means? Then I realized that, to really understand the meaning, perhaps it was necessary to know Giulia. […] If I can’t hold back the tears for the pain I feel, I can’t imagine what his family is going through. Family that I love and will love forever, just as I have always loved Giulia.
That “shining harmony” is no longer among us. Some fans learned about it directly during a stop on the band’s tour, during the performance. There were many moving comments and great participation in the condolences for Giulia.
The song “Dedicato a te” was crucial to the success of the the band’s first album, launching him into the rankings. This single achieved platinum certification (when there was no Spotify yet), putting the album in first place for the first two weeks of release.
In a 2019 interview, Sarcina said, regarding the song, that it is “a true story, a letter of thanks for this Giulia” who, in some way, saved the author’s life. The single then also reached a record, remaining at the top of the radio and best-selling singles charts for over 14 weeks. Many little girls have received the name Giulia right after the song’s release.
In the post on Instagram, Sarcina attached a still image of the official video of the song, where Giulia was played by the actress Angelica Cacciapaglia. Her last goodbye ends sweetly and bitterly at the same time: “The pain of not being able to say goodbye and tell you how much I love you is immense. But I am sure that one day we will meet again and laugh at human stupidity. With true and eternal love. Between”.
