Norris at -52
Landau Norris leaves Marina Bay with the knowledge of having achieved his goal: to close the gap in the standings from Max Verstappen. Now the gap is 52 points, but a few seconds from the checkered flag it was 51: “credit” to former teammate Daniel Richardwho, at RB’s request, stopped on the penultimate lap to get the fastest lap on soft tyres and an empty tank.
The point loss in the standings did not bother Norris, who in the press conference wanted to avoid controversy over the team play between Red Bull and RB.
Norris’s words
“Well done, Daniel. I’m happy for him. I did my best to try to get the fastest lap when the tyres were in good condition. But I can’t have everything, that’s life.“, said the British. “In Formula 1 it’s been like this since probably before I was born, so there’s nothing to complain about. It was the most logical thing to do and a smart move on their part.“.
His “boss” Zak Brown does not share the same opinion: the McLaren CEO, who has repeatedly complained about timeshare in F1, has announced that he will request information on RB’s choice to stop Ricciardo to take away the fastest lap from Norris and indirectly favor Verstappen.
