Sudden resignation
Suddenly the statement released today by Lamborghini arrives announcing the resignation with immediate effect Of Giorgio Sanna as Head of the Motorsport sector. The former driver, who had held this position since 2015, in fact decided to leave the house in Sant'Agata Bolognese in the year of Lamborghini's debut in the WEC and IMSA championships, moreover on the eve of the 12 Hours of Sebring.
The statement
In the 1812 km of Qatar, the opening race of the 2024 WEC season, Sanna was not present at the Losail racetrack for personal reasons, but nothing predicted such a decision: “Automobili Lamborghini informs that today Giorgio Sanna has resigned from the company and from the role of Head of Motorsport, which he held since 2015 – we read in the official press release – the functions of Head of Motorsport are assumed on an interim basis by Dr. Ing. Rouven Mohr, already responsible for the motorsport department, as Chief Technical Officer of Automobili Lamborghini”.

The causes that led Sanna to make this decision are not known, with Lamborghini having announced it in the meantime Rouven Mohr as his interim replacement. The German, previously Technical Director of Audi Sport, returned to Lamborghini last year.

A bolt from the blue that comes after years in which Sanna had supported the growth of Lamborghini in the world of motorsport, following in particular the Huracan GT3 program and the Lamborghini SuperTrofeo. In recent years, above all, he has contributed to completing the project of SC63the first prototype of the Emilian company.
