A family from Germany had a different idea of their vacation in Greece: the loungers at the pool were constantly occupied. She sued against this – and was right.
Kassel – There is no free space at the pool, even though there is hardly anyone there: a family from Germany couldn't really enjoy their vacation in Greece. While there were hardly any hotel guests at the pool, all the remaining places with towels were reserved. The family took legal action against this – and in the end they were right.
Actually, according to the cliché Germans are the world champions in reserving pool loungers, but in the current case a family from Bischofswerda in Saxony was left behind. According to the court, although the hotel she had booked had six swimming pools and around 500 loungers, there was often no space left.
Family from Germany can't get loungers at the pool in Greece
The posted rules of conduct were clear: In the hotel on Rhodes, guests are actually not allowed to reserve the loungers for more than 30 minutes without using them. According to the descriptions, the management and staff of the hotel did nothing about the violations. The family complained about this several times – without success.
The Greek holiday on Rhodes left a bad aftertaste for the family from Germany, after all they had paid 5260 euros for the package trip. In order to get some of the money back, she filed a lawsuit in court – and was partly right.
No loungers on vacation in Greece: Court gives family justice
The court awarded the family from Saxony 322.77 euros, a court spokesman told dpa. A package holiday could be defective if the organizer either only provides a few pool loungers in a hotel complex or does not intervene if travelers reserve pool loungers for a long time without actually using them, the reason given was.
While the family criticized the lounger dilemma in Greece several times, according to the court, the organizer saw it as more of a peaceful competition for the coveted spots at the pool.
The court decided on a travel price reduction of 15 percent of the daily travel price from the plaintiff's first complaint. The verdict is not final and an appeal is possible. (chw/dpa)
