The German has never whistled for Spanish teams in official competitions
The German referee Daniel Schlager has been appointed by UEFA to direct this Thursday, November 28, starting at 9:00 p.m., the match on the fourth day of the league phase of the Conference League between Mlada Boleslav and the Real Betis which will be played at the Mestsky stadium, in the Czech Republic.
It is the first time in which the German referee is present in an official Real Betis match. A 34-year-old bench employee, Schlager will be assisted from the sidelines by his compatriots Rafael Foltyn and Sven Waschitzki, while Timo Gerach will serve as fourth official. Robert Schröder and Johan Pfeifer will be in the VAR room.
Schlager has refereed eleven games in continental competitions. There were four in the qualification phase for the Conference, three in the Conference, two in qualification for the Euro Cup and one prior to the Europa League, as well as another in the group stage of the Nations League C. To date it has not coincided with Spanish teams. In the Bundesliga he has a record of 80 games since the 2018-19 season, when he debuted in his country’s top category.
Betis has not come across a German referee since March 2023 when, in the first leg of the Europa League round of 16 tie, Daniel Siebert whistled the duel at Old Trafford against Manchester United that ended 4-1 for the English.
