Georgian doctor Nona Abesadze assessed the state of ex-president of the country Mikhail Saakashvili, who is on hunger strike in prison. Her words convey RIA News…
As Abesadze noted, it is impossible to say with precision how many days a starving person can withstand. In particular, it depends on the weight and fat cells of a person, the state of the liver, the level of glucose in the body, the type of fasting, the amount of fluid consumed, and more. “A direct threat to life comes in the sixth week of a strict hunger strike,” she warned.
Regarding Saakashvili, the doctor suggested that he was receiving medication. “That is, he is given a transfusion with microelements, so it is difficult for me to speak exactly about his state of health,” she explained. At the same time, even in the case of providing assistance after such a long fasting, the body can accumulate too many toxins. A politician can bring his condition to a critical level, Abesadze concluded.
Earlier, the human rights commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Lyudmila Denisova said that Mikhail Saakashvili’s health was in critical condition. The Ombudsman said that she received a letter from the politician, in which he reported on the unsatisfactory results of the tests done the day before, on the 35th day of the hunger strike.
Mikhail Saakashvili was detained in Georgia on October 1 after he illegally entered the country. The politician was imprisoned under a sentence that was passed in absentia to him in the cases of the murder of banker Sandro Girgvliani several years ago. In prison, Saakashvili went on a hunger strike.
