From the Dakar challenge to the challenge for sustainable urban mobility, up to the challenge for market leadership. Dacia is preparing to be the absolute protagonist at the next Geneva Motor Show, scheduled at Palexpo from 26 February. The Romanian brand of the Renault group has in fact made three world premieres official which will debut in front of the general public at GIMS. These are in detail the new Duster, the new Spring and the Sandrider concept car which will be the development basis for the vehicle that will take part in the Dakar.
The new Dacia Duster
The design of the new Dacia Duster is renewed, with the front made very expressive thanks to the presence of the grille which brings with it the new brand identity which had actually already debuted on the Duster restyling. Here the thin headlights with a Y motif stand out. Overall the shapes are simple and convey the robust and outdoor soul of this model. They do not change The dimensions compared to the past, with the length still remaining at 4.34 while the height and width vary slightly compared to the current generation, with one centimeter more for the latter and one less in terms of height. The interiors also evolve, with the use of sustainable coverings and a digital dashboard characterized by a 7″ digital display for the instrument panel and a 10.1″ central touchscreen associated with the new multimedia system for infotainment. Then available i YouClip systems to attach various accessories, from cell phone holders to bag hooks. They will be available three different enginesthe TCe 130 with light electrification, the Hybrid 140 and finally the ECO-G 100. Price starting from 19,700 euros.
The new Dacia Spring
Style now expresses more robust than in the past, with various stylistic features borrowed from the latest models of the brand and in particular from the new Duster. On Spring we find two black bands, one at the front and one at the rear which recall each other, ideally uniting the tail to the front end. Here there are the light clusters with Y-shaped light signature, crossed by. specific opaque streaks on the back. The load capacity now reaches 308 litres, 6% more than in the past, which becomes 1,004 liters when the rear seats are folded down with an additional 33 liters coming from pockets and glove compartments. Also interiors change radically compared to the past. The development of the dashboard is horizontal, with a new 7'' digital dashboard for all versions plus a 10'' touch screen for the infotainment system for all versions. New Dacia Spring also supports V2L, the Vehicle-to-Load to power external electrical devices. Under the skin is the 65 or 45 HP engine combined with the 26.8 kWh battery for a range of over 220 km.
The Dakar challenge with Sandrider
Under the skin there will be a 6V Biturbo 3.0 engine from the Nissan and Infiniti-derived Alliance, adapted for the use of e-fuels thanks to the collaboration with Aramco, thus allowing the unit to guarantee the same performance that would be guaranteed by a traditional fuel . It is also a more compact and lighter engine than the reference model. Dacia Sandrider has already been subjected to the Dyno Test, reaching the power peaks required by the FIA T1+ regulation, with 300 kW and 600 Nm. The Dacia engineering team then worked on refining the all-wheel drivetrain, the front and rear axles have been strengthened, work has also been done on new, stiffer brake calipers while offering better pedal feel. As regards the development of the bodywork and the design choices, Dacia Sandrider first and foremost uses a tubular frame with lightweight steel for better weight distribution, more robust and with a lower center of gravity. The engineers of the Romanian brand have exploited an angle of the A-pillar that can offer the widest possible axis of vision. To improve visibility, an anti-reflective paint was also chosen on the dashboard, with technology derived from the aeronautical world. The dashboard is modular, with screens and controls that can be adapted to the pilot's needs. In true Dacia spirit, the Sandrider offers a robust and easy-to-maintain vehicle, with a magnetic plate that can capture bolts and other components, preventing them from being lost in the sand in case of need for intervention during the race. To keep the temperature in the passenger compartment optimal, a specific anti-infrared pigment was applied to the carbon fiber panels of the bodywork, with the latter also being optimized from an aerodynamic point of view to facilitate the cooling of engines and mechanical components.
