“We have developed a government proposal for our sector, aware that the world of medical devices and therefore all technologies, including digital ones, need to enter into a system of rules. We are asking for an industrial policy for our sector that has a double value: on the one hand towards the institutions so that they can regulate and therefore also govern from an economic point of view, but not only, access to our technologies in healthcare facilities, but at the same time, allow our companies to further develop this sector by increasing jobs and also our contribution to the national GDP”. Fernanda Gellona, general director of Confindustria and Medical Devices, said this to Adnkronos while participating in the conference of the Italian Association of Clinical Engineers (Aiic) underway in Rome.
On access to technological innovation, “we have seen with great favor the entry and definition of the national Hta Plan”, Health technology assessment, “which for the evaluation of technological innovations is, we believe, the right tool – specifies Gellona – However, alongside a national HTA plan, there must also be the certainty that, for example, an innovation that has received a positive opinion finds space in the Lea”, Essential levels of assistance, “which is not always possible and , above all, which has to deal with timescales that are usually rather slow in the revision and renewal of the LEAs”.
Everything “must be within a framework of clear and certain rules that are not penalizing – reiterates the president of Confindustria Dm – Unfortunately today we are still fighting against the payback and we have also recently received another forced withdrawal of 0.75 on turnover. It is clear that the business world, given these monstrous burdens and this uncertainty, cannot manage to innovate and bring innovations to our country. On the contrary, we are very afraid that many companies will leave Italy, that national companies will export their production and that few competitors with mature products will remain in Italy. This, frankly – concludes Gellona – would be a serious loss and would be a defeat first and foremost for the National Health Service”.
