Use: as many breaks as necessary to provide aid and get the hostages out
The White House is exploring the idea of ”as many pauses as may be necessary to continue providing aid and to continue working to safely get people out, including hostages.” The US national security spokesman said John Kirby, following the support expressed by US President Joe Biden for a pause in the fighting to allow time for the release of the hostages.
The White House has said any pause in fighting should be temporary and localized and insisted it will not prevent Israel from defending itself. Tomorrow, Secretary of State Antony Blinken will meet with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi in Amman. In a statement, the latter said that Israel must end the war in Gaza, “where it is committing war crimes by bombing civilians and imposing a siege.”
Israel sends all workers from the Strip back to Gaza
Israel has announced that it intends to send all workers from the Strip back to Gaza, thus “cutting all ties” with the enclave. The Israeli security cabinet said this in a statement. According to Cogat, the arm of the Israeli Defense Ministry that oversees civilian activities in the Palestinian territories, about 18,500 Gazans had work permits in Israel at the start of the war.
Israel will create special court to judge Hamas after 7/10
Israel will set up a special court to try the hundreds of Hamas militiamen who launched the attack on 7 October, killing over 1,400 Israeli citizens and kidnapping at least 247. This was announced by the Kan television station, underlining that the Israeli authorities do not believe that the regular criminal law is the correct way to prosecute those who took part in the attack.
At the moment, Kan explains, we are discussing how to bring to justice the approximately two hundred Hamas terrorists captured in Israel in the aftermath of the invasion. At the moment the Israeli Ministry of Justice has refused to comment, but according to rumors the court should be given special powers to be able to conduct a historic judicial case against Hamas, ”to present to the world its objectives, roots, financiers and activities of the murderous terrorist group”.
