Earlier on Saturday, eight rockets were fired at Israel from the Rafah area. Hamas said it had launched a “major” missile attack on Tel Aviv.

Hamas high representative Sami Abu Zuhri described the attack as a “massacre,” according to Reuters. He also blamed the United States for the incident because of its armed and financial support to Israel.
According to the news agency AFP, Hamas demanded that Palestinians in the West Bank and Jerusalem also react with a popular uprising against Israel.
