Gaza War | Canada, Australia and New Zealand are calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza

Israel has announced that it will attack the city of Rafah as long as “civilians have left the area”.

CanadaAustralia and New Zealand in their joint statement called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

“We are very concerned about the information that Israel is planning a ground attack on Rafah [Gazan eteläosaan]. A military operation in Rafah would be catastrophic,” the statement by the prime ministers of the countries states.

“We need an immediate humanitarian ceasefire.”

Israel has announced that it will attack the city of Rafah as long as “civilians have left the area”.

“We will fight until complete victory, and that includes a heavy fight in Rafah after we let the civilian population leave the fighting areas,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the messaging service Telegram on Wednesday.

About 1.4 million Palestinians are stuck in Rafah. They have nowhere to run to, because northern Gaza is unsafe due to the war between Hamas and Israel and Egypt has not opened its border.

In his statement The Prime Ministers of Canada, Australia and New Zealand urged Israel not to carry out its attack on Rafah.

At the same time, however, the leaders stated that the ceasefire cannot be “one-sided”, and demanded that Hamas lay down its weapons and hand over the hostages to Israel.

The information on the map below is from before the most recent fighting between Hamas and Israel, and Palestinians have been fleeing especially from the north. Tens of thousands of Palestinians are known to have died in the fighting.
