Game Informer is closing: after thirty-three years, the famous American video game magazine suddenly had to interrupt its path, as explained by the editorial staff in a message to readers. The number 367 will therefore be the last.
“After thirty-three exciting years of bringing you the latest news, reviews and insights into the ever-evolving world of video games, it is with a heavy heart that we announce Game Informer Closing“, reads the post.
“From the early days of pixel adventures to the immersive virtual worlds of today, we are honored to have been able to share this incredible journey with youour loyal readers. The presses are stopped, but the passion for the game that we have cultivated together will live on.”
“Thank you for being a part of this epic journey. and may your gaming adventures never end.”
There is controversy over the methods of closure
While messages of condolence continue to arrive on Twitter for the terrible news (we are talking about the rest of the longest-running American video game magazine ever), some details have emerged regarding the announcement of Game Informer’s closure, and they are anything but pleasant.
It seems that GameStop, the owner of the magazine, has called a meeting for today in which communicated to the editorial staff the decision to close immediatelywithout any prior notice, providing for the dismissal of all collaborators and activating any liquidation measures.
The American chain bought Game Informer in 2000often using the magazine as a bonus for its subscribers. The closure announced today, however, comes after a period of severe crisis that occurred a few years ago, which saw the departure of historic collaborators.
