Diario AS newspaper revealed that the young Spanish star Gabi, 19 years old, Barcelona midfielder, will not be able to return to the stadiums at the start of the new season, contrary to initial reports that confirmed that he will return next August.
Gabi suffered a tear in the internal cruciate ligament of the knee, in addition to another tear in the knee cartilage, while he was playing with his country’s national team last November.
The newspaper said that Gabi has now come halfway through his rehabilitation process, and is scheduled to return to the field in October or November, which means he has been absent for nearly a year since his injury.
The newspaper added that Gabi’s recovery depends on the extent of his knee’s response to the rehabilitation process, after the surgery he underwent, and the extent of his positive attitude in dealing with this injury psychologically and mentally.
The newspaper added that Barça officials pointed the finger of blame at the medical staff of the Spanish national team, believing that this staff was responsible for the aggravation of the injury and its seriousness, as it was initially a tear in the internal cruciate ligament, and because of it he received treatment inside the national team camp, and his condition was not diagnosed correctly, and accordingly. Keep playing.
Barcelona’s medical staff suspected that Gabi had also suffered a tear in the knee cartilage, and this explains his need for an additional two or three months for rehabilitation, which means the entire year of 2024 will pass without him participating in matches with his club, and he may need another period to regain his full physical fitness. Therefore, it will not be at its best during a period not short of 2025.
The Goal website stated that Gabi’s absence had the greatest impact on Barcelona’s performance level in general this season, because he was one of the main trump cards in the squad of coach Xavi Hernandez, thanks to his high fighting spirit and his constant pressure on the players of the opposing team, and the great effort he exerted in defense and attack. During the matches, he contributed strongly to Barca winning the Spanish League championship last season.
Pablo Martin Baez Javiera, known as Gabi, born on August 5, 2005, signed for Barcelona at the age of eleven, after one season he spent at Real Betis 2014-2015. He began his professional career in “Barcelona B” in 2021, and was promoted in the same year to the first team. He played for the youth teams under 15, 16 and 18 years old and joined the first “Roja” team in 2021.
