Blinken-Tajani: sanctions on Iran are a sign of solidarity with Israel
Agreement for sanctions on Iran and more air coverage for Kiev in the G7 Foreign Ministers in Capri.
The Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajanimet with the French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Stéphane Séjourné. Among the topics discussed, the crisis in the Middle East, the war in Ukraine, the development of Africa and the common European defense. Faced with the risk of escalation in the Middle Eastern region, Tajani hoped that the Iranian act of aggression – strongly condemned by the Italian G7 presidency – is not followed by responses or reprisals, since any action of this kind would risk triggering a regional conflagration. “We work to promote peace and carry forward the 'two peoples, two states' solution. Italy is ready to do its part as we are doing in Lebanon, where the Unifil mission is deployed on the border with Israel” he added.
“Today we will address the most delicate issues on the agenda, the international situation as we know it, and with the role of bearers of peace everywhere, with the strength of diplomacy”. This was said by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, opening the proceedings of the second day of the G7 Foreign Ministers meeting in Capri. “We will certainly discuss the Middle Eastern situation – explained Tajani – we are friends of Israel, we support Israel, but we want a de-escalation in that area. We will address how to sanction Iran for the attack with hundreds of missiles against Israel, we will also have to address the situation regarding maritime traffic through Suez and the Red Sea, the merchant traffic threatened by the Houthis, and the issue of Ukraine which is fundamental for us”. Helping Ukraine, Tajani underlined, “means working for peace. Supporting Ukraine then means aiming for a peace table, but if Ukraine loses Putin will never sit at the table. We will also address issues concerning Born, with Stoltenberg, and the issues that concern the African continent which is of great importance for us with the foreign minister of Mauritania representing the African Union. It will be a day of great work and great commitment”.
Blinken-Tajani: sanctions on Iran are a sign of solidarity with Israel
The sanctions on Iran are a necessary signal of solidarity with Israel after the missile and drone attack on April 13. This is the position shared by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani during the bilateral meeting in Capri during the G7 of Foreign Ministers. The G7's general agreement is to invite states to issue individual sanctions against Iranian officials involved in the manufacturing and sale of drones and ballistic missiles already used in Ukraine and then against Israel and in the Red Sea. . Italy and the United States also share the need to accelerate the path that can lead to a ceasefire to allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza. For Italy and the United States, Israel's future lies in Israel's political integration and security sector with the countries of the region. Even a possible decision by Israel to react, according to Italy and the United States, must be seen within this political scenario.
