The head of EU diplomacy Borrell said that the anti-Russian position does not prevail among the G20 countries
The head of diplomacy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, said that the position of the organization and the G7 states on Russia’s special operation in Ukraine is not yet the key one among the G20. About this he wrote in a blog post following the G20 Ministerial Summit held in Indonesia.
Borrell revealed the position of the G20 on sanctions against Russia and stressed that anti-Russian ones do not prevail among the G20 member countries.
“The global battle of narratives is in full swing, and so far we have not won. As the EU, we must continue to work to refute Russian lies and military propaganda, clarifying who is responsible for the aggression and, therefore, for its consequences,” the EU diplomat stressed.
Borrell added that in March, 140 countries, including G20 members, opposed Russia’s special operation in Ukraine. However, opinions differ on acceptable measures and the consequences of the crisis, he said. “And many remain undecided and unwilling to take sides because it would jeopardize their geopolitical interests,” Borrell added.
