The Federation Cup Wrestling Championship, organized by the Wrestling Federation under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, achieved great success as the curtain came down on its activities today after strong fights in the “Mubadala Arena” with the participation of 300 players who competed in the junior, junior and youth categories, within the Olympic wrestling category. The Fujairah Martial Arts Club topped the overall standings of the tournament, to be crowned champion of the inaugural edition of the Federation Cup for Wrestling, while the runner-up went to the Khor Fakkan Club, and the Sharjah Martial Arts Club came third, and Abdullah Ahmed Al Hashemi won first place in the wrestling competitions, and Muhammad Abdul Rahman Al Haj came second while Faisal Zaid Al Shehhi won third place.
His Excellency Mohammed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Wrestling Federation, crowned the winners, and the second day of the tournament witnessed the presence of an elite group of dignitaries, led by His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Head of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office; Saleh Mohammed Saleh Al Jaziri, Director General of Tourism at the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi; Sheikh Hamdan bin Saeed bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Secretary-General of the Wrestling Federation, and members of the game’s board of directors; And Nenad Lalovic, President of the International Wrestling Federation.
The fights were allocated on the second and last day of the tournament, which is the largest of its kind in the country, for the under-17 category in wrestling challenges and the open weight category over 85 kg in wrestling, with the participation of players from different parts of the country and different nationalities, and the participants presented strong performances and demonstrated their prowess. It entertained the audience and added more excitement to the tournament.
Commenting on the tournament, Talal Al Hashemi, a member of the Wrestling Federation’s Board of Directors, said: “The tournament witnessed wonderful and good technical levels of participation and interaction from independent athletes or private or governmental clubs, which heralds a qualitative shift in the sport of wrestling in the near future, especially in light of the Federation’s accreditation.
