Former US presidential candidate for the Republican Party Nikki Haley announced that she will vote in the November elections for Donald Trump, who was her opponent in the party’s internal dispute.
The former US ambassador to the UN said at an event this Wednesday (22), at a think tank in Washington that, although Trump is not “perfect”, the policies of the current president, Democrat Joe Biden, have been “a catastrophe”.
“I place my priorities in a president who will have to defend our allies and hold our enemies accountable. In someone who will protect the border, no more excuses. In a president who supports capitalism and freedom, who understands that we need less debt, not more,” he said.
Although “Trump was not perfect in this regard, and I have made that clear many, many times, Biden was a catastrophe. Therefore, I will vote for Trump”, he highlighted.
Haley, 52, dropped out of the race for the Republican nomination on March 5, when she was the former president’s last remaining opponent, as the others had also withdrawn. She had won only two party primaries so far: in the District of Columbia, where the nation’s capital, Washington, is located, and in Vermont.
Announcing the decision in a speech in Charleston, in her home state of South Carolina, she said it was now up to the former president “to win the votes of those inside and outside our party who did not support him.” (With EFE Agency)
