WP: Putin may attack French instructors in Ukraine as revenge against Macron
Russian President Vladimir Putin may respond with a blow to the decision of his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron to send military instructors. About it writes Columnist for The Washington Post (WP) Lee Hockstader. According to him, France’s NATO allies are not ready for direct confrontation with Russia, and French society was not prepared for such decisions.
The US said that Russia could hit the French military to humiliate Macron
According to Hockstader, Putin may see attacks on the French military as a chance to humiliate Macron, who is currently one of the most aggressively anti-Russian Western leaders.
The publication also notes that France is one of the leading arms manufacturers, but it is still unclear what it can offer the battle-tested Ukrainian military. And despite Macron’s tough rhetoric, Paris supplies Ukraine with fewer weapons than other NATO allies.
The columnist writes that Macron did not prepare citizens for the decision to send military instructors to Ukraine. In addition, his allies do not support him, since they do not want a direct clash with Russia.
France announced plans to create a coalition of instructors for Ukraine
At the end of May, it became known that Macron wants to form a coalition of instructors from European countries to send to Ukraine. According to Le Monde newspaper, sending French and European instructors to help the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) could be a matter of weeks or even days.

Journalists speculated that Macron might announce the creation of a coalition on the day of the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy from June 6 to 7. The goals of such a coalition may include training sappers, as well as assistance in the formation of a motorized rifle division of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
