Mark Coleman saved two of his family members from the fire.
Former free athlete size Mark Coleman is in a coma in the intensive care unit of an Ohio hospital. Coleman, 59, saved his parents from a fire last Tuesday.
NBC News says that Coleman woke up Tuesday morning to the barking of the family dog Hammer. There was a fire in the house.
He managed to get his parents out of the burning house, but went inside the burning building a third time to get the dog out.
According to NBC, it is still unclear whether Coleman was inside or outside the house when he lost consciousness. He had inhaled a lot of toxic smoke.
Coleman's daughter Morgan Coleman posted a touching update on the situation on Instagram.
“He managed to carry his parents out of the house, but despite his efforts, he was unable to save Hammer. He was flown to the hospital, where he is fighting for his life after his heroic actions. Our father is our hero. The strongest and bravest man I know,” the daughter wrote.
An old picture of the father and daughters posing was attached to the text.
The ex-combatant's parents survived the fire without serious injuries.
“Thank God we are alive. We are praying for Mark!” rescued Connie Foos Coleman said and profusely thanked everyone who participated in the rescue work.
Mark Coleman's freestyle career in the UFC lasted from 1996 to 2010. He then continued his sports career as a professional wrestler.
He was nominated to the UFC Hall of Fame in 2008.
