Guarín, former soccer player for the Colombian National Team and whose last team was Millonarios, reappeared in an interview in which he spoke about his health.
“I am an alcoholic, I admit it, and I am a recovering addict. But learning is a great motivation.”the player told Semana.com.
“I was a social alcoholic for several years and was active in football. That’s where my behavior began and I made bad decisions,” added the former player.
“When I left Millonarios it was the deepest point I touched, because during these last three years I fell to the bottom of my addiction. I no longer gave, I had lost my dignity, my close social circle, the trust of loved ones and the most important and valuable thing I have, which are my three children. “I lost many things of sentimental value,” he said.
Guarín said that professional help was necessary to try to get out of the problem he has experienced.
“I had to give up and give myself to my higher self, to some professionals with whom I am working to be able to remedy many things. Regaining the trust of myself, my children, and my relatives. Projecting and accepting was the main thing. I couldn’t do it alone and I let myself be helped. I’m in that process. I can safely tell you that this is the definitive one. “I already knocked on the devil’s door and it’s not the best.”
He commented on what his career was like and when he left football. “When I retired from football, and more so in the way I retired, I was left with that feeling of what do I do now? What do I start doing? For 20 years, my thing was to dedicate myself to football and it’s what I know how to do. I didn’t prepare for other things either. I was left helpless and made decisions that were not good. I had to learn. I go back to remember the bad things I did, push myself forward and continue leading the best life.”
Guarin is the father of 3 children, the first two are the result of his relationship with the Venezuelan Andreína Fiallo and the youngest (Jacobo) with the Colombian Sara Uribe.
