Amman (Al-Ittihad)
French Foreign Minister Stephane Ségornet said that there is “no security and no permanent stability” in the Middle East without a two-state solution.
This came in a press conference held by Sigourney in West Jerusalem, yesterday, following discussions he held with Israeli officials. The Foreign Minister said, “There is no security or permanent stability in the region without a two-state solution, Palestinian and Israeli.”
The French minister called for a permanent ceasefire and an end to the suffering of civilians in Gaza.
Yesterday, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi met in Amman with his French counterpart in a meeting that discussed efforts to reach a complete ceasefire in Gaza, ensure the protection of civilians and continue joint efforts to deliver sustainable humanitarian aid to all parts of the Gaza Strip.
The Jordanian News Agency, Petra, quoted Al-Safadi warning that the risk of the war expanding increases with every day that the war on Gaza continues, stressing the need to initiate immediate and effective international action to stop it and the unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe it produces.
The agency said that Al-Safadi stressed the need for the international community to continue providing support to the indispensable United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and its indispensable role in helping Palestinian refugees, especially in Gaza, which is facing an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.
In a related context, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a phone call yesterday that the two-state solution is the only way to lasting peace in the Middle East.
The German Chancellor explained, according to a statement issued by his spokesman: “Only a two-state solution through negotiations opens the horizons for reaching a permanent solution to the conflict in the Middle East. This must apply to Gaza and the West Bank.”
