France has demanded on Monday to the European Commission that imposes tariffs on American products immediately, in retaliation to those announced Sunday by President Donald Trump to steel and aluminum (specifically 25%), said Galo Exterior Minister, exterior, Jean-Noël Barrot, as he collects EFE.
Trump “already imposed those tariffs in 2018 and then we replied. Now we will replicate again,” he said in Chief of French diplomacy to the chain Tf1.
Barrot added that it will be up to the European Commission to decide which products imposes these tariffs and denied wanting to start a commercial war.
Brussels “he told us that he was ready to (replicate) when the time arrived and the moment has arrived,” said the minister. “You don’t have to have the minimum doubt when our interests are damaged,” Barrot added.
Trump announced this Sunday that he would impose 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum that enters the United States, a measure that he already took during his first term to protect his country’s industry in those domains.
This tariff will affect all countries that export both aluminum and steel to the US, so that it will also impact Spain, which export a part of its steel and aluminum on the other side of the Atlantic. This decision will also have its repercussions on the European stock exchanges that begin this day their weekly start.
