Giving a fourth dose of Covid vaccine to immunosuppressed patients “may have its own logic”. But “I would not like this approach to be extended to other categories”, for which a meeting of the Technical Scientific Commission of the Italian Medicines Agency Aifa is scheduled to be examined in the next few days. So at Adnkronos Salute Maria Rita Gismondo, director of the Laboratory of clinical microbiology, virology and diagnostics of bioemergencies at the Sacco hospital in Milan.
On a fourth dose to the general population, therefore, the expert reiterates her perplexities: “Never has a vaccine administration scheme been followed so close”, she observes. “Moreover – she remembers, underlining what has been highlighted by several parties – there are studies that show that a fourth dose could even be negative for our immunological system”.
