Christian Horner bought a tour of the Mercedes factory at auction.
F1 teams the factories and depots are a top secret area and the stables try to protect them from the eyes of outsiders to the best of their ability.
Even the slightest sighting can lead to a Heureka moment in a competitor’s camp, and the technology hardly developed by the stable can be wasted.
Red Bull team manager Christian Horner came up with an ingenious solution to sniff at his rival Mercedes factory, he reveals Racing News 365 in an interview.
Horner participated in an auction organized by Mercedes, where the stable traded to its fans for a tour of its F1 factory. He bid £ 4,000 and to the horror of Mercedes won the tender.
Horner said in an interview that he plans to take all the joy out of the espionage trip.
“I hope I can take at least 20 people with me,” he laughed according to the site.

The Red Bull team manager said he also visited McLaren headquarters years ago. He was a driver at the time David Coulthardin as an invited guest, but could not see much.
