“Effective immediately, Polo has been suspended by the league and removed from all team activities,” the Timbers, current runner-up in the North American Soccer League (MLS), said in a statement.
“MLS is conducting an investigation into the matter and will remain in close communication with the Timbers and the MLS Players Association throughout the process,” the franchise added.
According to Peruvian media, Polo was accused of physical and psychological abuse by his ex-partner in a television program. The 27-year-old midfielder has been with the Timbers since 2018 and before. He wore the uniform of the Mexican Morelia and the Colombian Millonarios, among other teams.
Last season, Polo suffered a serious injury in May and was unable to play in the MLS playoffs or final, in which the Timbers lost to New York City FC.
