Former Australian Olympic cyclist Melissa Hoskins died at the age of 32 after being hit by a van in front of the couple’s home.
Former Australian cyclist Rohan Dennis, a two-time world time trial champion, has formally pleaded guilty to a charge related to the accident that caused the death of his wifeMelissa Hoskins. The former Australian Olympic cyclist also died at the age of 32 after being hit by a van driven by her partner in front of her home in Adelaide on December 30, 2023.
Dennis, 34, pleaded guilty this Friday to one count of aggravated act that may cause damagein an appearance before the judge in the district of South Australia in Adelaide.
Judge Ian Press imposed bail on Dennis until April 14, the date on which the final sentence will be known and on which the victims’ statements will be read.
Hoskins represented Australia in the track team pursuit at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games, as well as being part of the team that won the world title in 2015.
Dennis, for his part, retired at the end of the 2023 season after a race in which he twice won the world time trial titleas well as an Olympic bronze medal in the same discipline in Tokyo.
To this he added a silver in the team pursuit at the 2012 London Games and wore the yellow jersey in the Tour de France after winning the inaugural time trial in the 2015 edition.
The sports couple married in 2018 and have two children.
