Foreman wears fascist shirt: “Blacks, you don’t want to work.” Reported by the union
He offended one of his subordinates because of the color of his skin, wore a t-shirt with slogans praising fascism and shouted “I’m a fascist”. A foreman from Pisa was reported by the Uilm-Italian Union of Metalworkers for the offenses directed at a delegate of Senegalese origin. The worker was subjected to racist insults by his superior who then attempted to apologise. According to what La Repubblica reports, the workers have called for today, Monday 23 October, an eight-hour strike with a garrison in front of the Officine Ristori in Montecalvoli, in the province of Pisa.
The events date back to last week, following a complaint within the company about the timing of a production line. The delegate told the foreman that he was on time and he got angry. “We immediately moved on to strong words, he uttered phrases like ‘You are black, you don’t want to work’ or ‘What did you come to Italy for’ as well as other serious epithets’,” Riccardo Bartoli, a member of the Uilm Pisa secretariat, according to which the words were heard by at least “about ten other workers”. Following the incident, it was decided to call a one-hour strike.
A few days later, the foreman decided to respond to the delegate’s accusations of fascism and racism by first addressing “serious insults to Senegalese workers” and then wearing a t-shirt with fascist writings, while shouting “I’m a fascist”. An unacceptable behavior for the union, which has decided to take legal action.
