The new Ford Custom Nugget debuts at the Salone del Camper in Parma. The Blue Oval confirms its participation in the event dedicated to vehicles for open-air tourism, choosing the exhibition pavilions of the Emilian event to showcase the new Transit range with new versions that offer greater comfort. Among the new features on display, the Active trim, designed for those who don’t give up on adventure and want to stand out. There are also new features for engines, with Transit Custom Nugget now available with a new Plug-In Hybrid engine and four-wheel drive, with the powertrain consisting of a 2.5-liter Atkinson cycle petrol engine with an 11.8 kWh battery and an electric motor for a power of 233 HP.
The new version of the Custom Nugget
The new Transit Custom Nugget range has been developed in partnership with leading camper manufacturer Westfalia. Designed for campers and outdoor adventurers, the new Transit Custom Nugget Active features bold SUV-inspired styling that enhances the Titanium specification. Distinctive features include a bold front grille, black plastic skid plates, dedicated exterior cladding, 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and LED rear lights. Inside, the seats are upholstered in a durable, waterproof fabric designed to keep the cabin dry and comfortable even after a day of kayaking or at the beach. Driver assistance systems help to increase comfort when on the move: in particular, the Transit Custom Nugget features Pre-Collision Assist, Reverse Brake Assist and Blind Spot Information System.4 for greater safety on the motorway and during manoeuvring. Added to these is the adaptive cruise control (Adaptive Cruise Control), available with Stop&Go function for models with automatic transmission.
The interiors and new features
Ford’s Smart Camper touchscreen provides centralised control and monitoring of camper functions – including lighting, heating, water levels and more – when parked overnight or at a location of interest. Like the Titanium model, the Transit Custom Nugget Active can be specified with optional all-wheel drive paired with the 170PS EcoBlue diesel engine and eight-speed automatic transmission. This combination provides superior grip on loose and slippery surfaces, making it easy to reach even the most remote campsites and outdoor activity locations. The Transit Custom Nugget Active also offers a towing capacity of up to 2.3 tonnes, ideal for towing boat trailers, horseboxes and more.
The long wheelbase variant
For those who want even more space and comfort, the Transit Custom Nugget is also available in a new long wheelbase version, for both Titanium and Active trims, and with the full range of engines. Designed to make long journeys even more enjoyable, this version extends the renowned multi-zone interior configuration that has made the Nugget a success, offering a larger and more functional kitchen area with increased worktop and more places to store pots and pans. Stowage space has also been optimised with a larger built-in wardrobe, to keep the environment always tidy. For those who love adventure and stops away from the mains, an alternative long wheelbase interior configuration is available, which includes a practical integrated toilet. Both the standard and long wheelbase versions offer exclusive features: integrated hob and sink, hot water boiler as standard, heated and swiveling front seats, drawer refrigerator, larger beds with optional heating for the lower bed and the Smart Camper multifunction touchscreen system with inclinometer to facilitate levelling the vehicle on uneven terrain.
