Extreme power and a driver-friendly cockpit for record-breaking performance: these are, according to Ford, the two highlights of the new one Mustang GTDwhich will be presented tomorrow at 1pm Le Mans. The protagonist of this car will be the new Performance Pack, which, as promised by the Blue Oval company itself, improves agility. Special mention also for the cockpit designed to suit the driver and for the exposed carbon fiber elements that enhance the character of the car, the latter enhanced to maximum power by the Chroma Flame paint.
The new Ford Mustang GTD
Returning to Performance Packs, Ford considers it a fundamental element to be able to complete a lap of the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife in less than 7 minutes: it includes several aerodynamic fins and a larger splitter on the front grille, aerodynamic flaps under the car body and a drag reduction system on the rear wing, all active aerodynamic elements which effectively minimize air resistance in a straight line without compromising grip when cornering. And that’s not all: the same package also includes a Pack Lightweightwhich eliminates some of the sound-absorbing material and introduces exclusive 20″ magnesium wheels and a distinctive front grille.
Racing-inspired interior
Internally we find the standard Recaro seats and a new racing-inspired steering wheel characterized by a thick, padded edge, enriched with premium Dinamica inserts and covered in leather, with a series of further carbon fiber details. Further focus on steering wheel: the controls it features also regulate the stiffness of the suspension and the exhaust mode, the latter a feature that allows drivers to modify the car’s behavior in corners and the roar during acceleration. The engine, a 5.2-liter supercharged V8, delivers 800 HP of maximum power: it is paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission with titanium paddle shifters.
Up to 800 HP
“Many sports cars are distinguished by a single aspect. However, to record a fastest lap at the Nürburgring, a car must excel in everything: cornering, grip, braking, acceleration – there is not a single aspect in which I can afford not to be at my best – said Greg Goodall, Chief Engineer of the new Mustang GTD – Thanks to the very light carbon fiber body and the active aerodynamics of the Performance Pack, we took inspiration from the world of motorsport to ensure that the Mustang GTD give your best in every situationall with the goal of completing a lap of the Nürburgring in under seven minutes.”
