The British Ministry of Intelligence confirmed that Russia’s main military effort remained in Severodonetsk in eastern Ukraine.
The update indicated that Russian forces made advances in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city in the northeast of the country, for the first time in many weeks.
The advance of Russian forces in Kharkiv is an important development in the war, as Ukrainian forces recaptured several towns and villages in an enclave north of Kharkiv, last month.
Britain’s Ministry of Defense said in its latest intelligence update that while Russian government funding allows the military-industrial sector to meet the demands of the war in Ukraine, the industry may struggle to keep pace in part due to sanctions and a lack of expertise.
The update also cited a June 10 statement by a Russian official who expected Russia’s defense spending to amount to a 20 percent increase in Russia’s defense budget.
The head of the Russian Military Industrial Committee predicted in the statement that the increase in military spending would reach 10 or 12 million dollars.
