In the 1979 Formula World Championship the team Tyrrell lined up the 009 car, designed by Maurice Philippe, designer who was also co-author of the Lotus 49 and 72. It was driven by Didier Pironi, then a teammate at the Ferrari of Gilles Villeneuve, by Jean-Pierre Jarier, Geoff Lees and Derek Daly. With four podium finishes in total in Jody Scheckter’s year of the championship, the Tyrrell team took fifth place in the constructors’ classification, always based on the trusted Ford Cosworth DFV 3.0 V8 engine.
An example of the car, chassis number 6, is on sale for $ 450,000, at the current exchange rate about 390 thousand euros. According to the site Race Car Locators, on which the announcement appeared, it is a car certainly driven by Didier Pironi during that season. With it he would have obtained third place in the United States Grand Prix at Watkins Glen, the last race of the season. The car, which has been used in historic car events on circuits around the world (such as the Masters F1 Series by CGA Racing), has been based in the UK for several years. Later it arrived in the United States, where it received $ 50,000 upgrades to ensure greater safety for those who would take it to the track.
Today the Formula 1 car is on sale, as the owner is unfortunately going through a difficult period in terms of health. The car is considered ‘original’ but the more correct definition would be ‘rebuilt’ thanks to spare parts and the creation of ad hoc components to be used on the circuits. There is no information on the engine.
Although the classic car sector is experiencing a moment of incredible liveliness and media attention, classic Formula 1 cars are still not only very rare items, but also more difficult to sell due to their peculiar condition: they can be used. only on the track and in most cases the spare parts have to be produced from scratch to keep the original set-up one hundred percent.
